Happy Sunday, Earth humans. I am coming to you from Planet Working On My eBooks Non-Stop. I managed to chew through production work on about 150 old comics today (about 200 book pages) and have been really enjoying the chance to soak in my old archives. Between the perspective and the extra workload, I've been trying to write clearer, more concise comics lately so I don't miss deadlines.

I love some of the weird stuff I'm finding as I build these collections. Beating the crap out of myself with this kind of work is strangely energizing. I have never spent so much time in a spreadsheet! (lots of dialogue to catalogue)

I did tonight's strip with the new Photoshop CS 6 beta. I have some very, very old habits and use the program really weirdly, but have to declare CS 6 ready for prime time. (for me, at least!) It's smooth as a creepy baby metaphor.

Tonight's comic ties into this earlier strip and I kind of want to wear the title.

I think the story of Red Robot #B-12 will be called REVENGE of the VENGEANCE FRIENDS. One more recruit tomorrow.

New in this edition: You can search dialogue and characters now. There's also a glossary of backstory. I think the table of contents works better, too. Pinch in when reading a comic, it's a pretty cool bit of interaction.

As Pattern Recognizers may have noticed, I'm writing a week or two of "back to basics" comics with all my active characters for new people who started at #3,001. Sometimes you just need to look back at what the core of a character is and look for new facets before you put them back into longer continuity.

In other news, I am very proud to say my Kickstarter is going crazy ... and getting weirder by the day. Someone actually paid me to eat a pound of bacon. I haven't had bacon in ... 2 1/2 years or so? I wonder if it will transform me into some kind of Pork Gollum.

Many updates on the ol' DS Kickstarter since last night. I will keep it simple and say you should go read them if you like Red Robot.

Today was ridiculous! In a good way.

I put up a Kickstarter project so you all could help me defray the costs of producing a big DS eBook collection of my first 3,000 comics. I set the goal to what I thought was a reasonable, symbolic $3,000. That was enough to justify spending some time on the book and would show me that people actually wanted the book. I figured it would take a week, but we'd hit the goal and it would be great.

I didn't even get a chance to link the Kickstarter page on my website before we hit 100%. It took less than 45 minutes from mentioning it on Twitter. Thank you! That was insane.

We're currently at almost 3x the original goal. I've already had to add extra rewards for donations and am expanding the scope of this project to include more commentary and more time to tweak the art. I'm adding a whole extra book and releasing CRUSH ALL HU-MANS! as a DRM-free ebook when we hit $10,000. If this keeps going, I may be able to budget time to reconstruct and color all my syndicated comics. Who knows what else we'll get done?

I've wanted to put a comic book on the iPad since they first came out, but wasn't super jazzed by the existing tools. Would you read more or find it easier to keep caught up if there were monthly editions available? (If this became a regular thing, of course there would also be PDF versions.)

As I home in on comic number three thousand, I've been doing a lot of looking back and thinking about allllll the material I've made in nearly twelve years. I've also been thinking about just how awesome it would be to get a full collection into your hands somehow— something searchable, sortable by character and with the major storylines plucked out for easy absorption. Now, I have no idea how I'm going to fund the hundreds of hours it would take to do all this … but we'll figure that out later.

Firstly, hats off to everyone helping to prevent bills like SOPA by blacking out their sites for the strike today. Obviously, I didn't because you're reading this.

I try to do my best to exist outside of copyright bullshit and DRM mechanisms by putting out my comics freely and under a Creative Commons license. I don't feel comfortable blacking myself out for the day for this any more than I would impose my beliefs on people by taking Christmas or the 4th of July off. I come from the old school of comic strip cartoonists who would probably die if we took a day off before the series ended.

I hope you'll respect this decision, and if you're an American citizen you will use that position to complain to your member of Congress or the White House. Any creative industry that needs legal help to survive deserves to die. There's nothing a big media company can do which a small group of people can do just as well these days.

Macaroni and peanut butter is one of my favorite things to cook late at night. I've never done it in a crock pot, but I assume it would work.

You start with pasta suitable for mac and cheese, but add peanut butter, something buttery and curry powder. The whole mess becomes gooey, savory and warming. All the protein and comfort, none of the cheese. Either this is incredibly dumb and obvious or I am Earth's Greatest Culinary Genius.
